Il Chelsea Hotel, lo storico hotel di New York che ha ispirato tanti scrittori, registi e musicisti. Oggi il servizio fa schifo, e probabilmente lo ha sempre fatto, ma è stata la casa e la fonte di ispirazione di così tanta arte che oggi può essere considerato più un museo che un hotel.
E alla fine arrivò Lana Del Rey, che è di New York, ma adesso vive a Londra (sopra) e probabilmente sente un po’ nostalgia di casa.
Ha realizzato una cover di una delle canzoni più belle e famose legate a quel luogo: Chelsea Hotel #2, tratta dall’album del 1974 di Leonard Cohen New Skin for the Old Ceremony.
L’unico modo per ascoltare questa cover è attraverso il video ufficiale che Lana Del Rey ha rilasciato qualche ora fa (sotto).
Musicalmente parlando, non aggiunge praticamente nulla alla versione originale, a parte il fatto – se non ricordiamo male – che è la prima volta che una cantante donna famosa canta il verso “giving me head on the unmade bed” (“facendomi un p****no sul letto disfatto”).
Questa canzone potrebbe fare parte della colonna sonora de Il Grande Gatsby, il film di Baz Luhrmann con Leonardo DiCaprio e Carey Mulligan che uscirà il prossimo 16 maggio.
Ma non siamo sicuri.
