Willy, il principe di Bel-Air: in arrivo il reboot in chiave drammatica

“Hey questa è la maxi-storia di come la mia vita, cambiata, capovolta , sottosopra sia finita. Seduto su due piedi qui con te, ti parlerò di Willy, superfico di Bel-Air…“. Così iniziava la sigla di una delle sitcom più amate degli anni Novanta: Willy, il principe di Bel-Air, con protagonista il giovane Will Smith.

Senza dubbio una delle serie tv di maggior successo di quel periodo, andato in onda precisamente dal 1990 al 1996, per un totale di ben 150 episodi suddivisi in 6 stagioni. Divertimento, ironia e comicità, erano questi gli ingredienti di Willy, il principe di Bel-Air. Come reagireste se vi dicessi che, secondo quanto riporta Hollywood Reporter, è in cantiere un reboot della storica sitcom ma in chiave drammatica?!

Ebbene sì, Will Smith non è la prima volta che prova a fare un remake della serie tv che lo ha lanciato nel mondo della recitazione, ma questa volta sembra essere quella buona. Tutto è iniziato da un trailer (di oltre 3 minuti e mezzo) realizzato dal direttore della fotografia Morgan Cooper dal tono molto dark; immediatamente diventato virale generando oltre sette milioni di views su YouTube.

—- Haha, well damn. Exactly one year ago, we released BEL-AIR. So much has happened since that day- it's been a beautiful, crazy surreal blur haha. I'm so thankful for this new chapter of my career, and I’m so thankful for the amazing cast and crew who helped me bring BEL-AIR to life. Now that a year has passed, I thought I'd share a few things about the process. . This all started with a crazy idea that I had while driving down 71 highway in my hometown Kansas City, MO. It was pure inspiration. The exact tone, the visualization, everything hit me all at once… I was sooo hyped. I screamed for like 2 minutes straight haha. Then I took a deep breath and said, "Okay, I'm gonna do this. I'm going to reinterpret the Fresh Prince through my lens and perspective. I've gotta do this, no matter what. No matter how crazy or out of reach this may seem to anyone, I'm going to do this." So I drove to a coffee shop that night and wrote the outline for the project. I pitched the idea to my producer Johnny Starke and my homies at Sun Squared Media, who believed in my vision. We locked arms on the project and a few months later, we were shooting BEL-AIR. The code name for the project was “B18” (if you look back on my old IG posts, we teased BEL-AIR for months as B18 before the release) We shot BEL-AIR in 8 days: 4 days in Kansas City (all of the Philly sequences and mansion interiors) and 4 days in LA (exteriors and a few additional interiors) I shot the entire project on Alexa Mini + Cooke S4 lenses. Fast forward 365 days and one billion views + across all platforms later, I'm left with 2 final thoughts: 1. My hope is that this project inspires people everywhere to pursue your artistic dreams with everything you have. It’s easy to think of every reason in the world why something won’t work. Don’t listen to that fear. Just GO! NOW! Life is too short to not take the leap. Never let fear stop you from bringing your art to life- Believe in yourself! . 2. You don’t have to be in LA or NY to make meaningful art. BEL-AIR was a KANSAS CITY project through and through, and I'm so proud of that. Dopo averlo visto in rete, lo stesso Will Smith era rimasto colpito e meravigliato da ciò che uno sguardo più drammatico potesse offrire alla serie, e aveva esternato quanto trovava interessante l’idea di realizzare un reboot che sottolineasse: i conflitti, le emozioni e i problemi che non avevano trovato spazio nella sitcom.

«Per quanto divertenti siano gli episodi, c’era un intero altro livello da esplorare con un altro sguardo. Una versione drammatica del materiale originale significa rivedere le trame ma dargli comunque un tocco unico di originalità», aveva spiegato l’attore 51enne.

Secondo le indiscrezioni, gli episodi avranno la durata di circa 1 ora e saranno co-sceneggiati dallo stesso Cooper autore del trailer dark; e prodotti dai Westbrook Studios di Jada Pinkett Smith e di Will Smith stesso. (I coniugi sono stati recentemente al centro di numerosi rumours riguardo un presunto matrimonio aperto tra i due). Il progetto sembra davvero riservare numerose sorprese per i fan della storica serie che si troveranno ad affrontare il passaggio del giovane Willy dalle strade di Philadelphia alle lussuose ville di Bel-Air.

Purtroppo sembra quindi che gli spettatori saranno costretti a salutare la famossissima sigla dal ritmo funky... o chissà se non verrà ri-arrangiata in chiave drammatica, in linea con il nuovo progetto.

Nel frattempo per ingannare l’attesa non ci resta che “…chiamare un taxi giallo…” e gustarci a tutto volume la celebre e divertente sigla originale.
